Edith Wharton Restoration - The Mount

The Mount is the historic Berkshire cottage of Edith Wharton and has been a centre for the arts and an institution in Lenox since its construction in 1902.

Over the years, the integrity of the estate had been eroded through subdivision of the original land holdings and deferred capital investment. Additionally, the estate had accumulated debt that it could no longer service. Turnberry Consulting developed a strategy to preserve the historic functions of the estate while bringing it back to financial stability. Turnberry identified opportunities to programme underutilized space in the estate’s outbuildings that would diversify the estate’s income stream. Turnberry also developed a proposal for a new park that would reknit the historic estate to while providing a passive open space amenity for surrounding property owners and the Town of Lenox. Additionally, Turnberry identified opportunities to enhance the visitor experience.

The report of Turnberry’s recommendations has been submitted to Edith Wharton Restoration, in addition to marketing and capital campaign fundraising materials to promote the concept of the new park.
